Rohan Dennis: I've always aimed for the top step at the Tour of California

After a two-year absence from the Amgen Tour of California, two-time runner-up Rohan Dennis (Bahrain-Merida) will return to the WorldTour race this year looking to climb onto the top step of the final overall podium in Pasadena. Every time Ive been to California, Ive always aimed for the top step, and this year is no different, the reigning time trial world champion said in an interview published on the race website. The only difference this year is that I dont have a time trial to help me with...

Vermaerke keeps U23 Liege-Bastogne-Liege title with Hagens Berman Axeon

Kevin Vermaerke kept the U23 Liège-Bastogne-Liège title in the Hagens Berman Axeon stables this week, following João Almeida’s win last year and Logan Owens win in 2016. The 18-year-old American won a three-up sprint in Blegny at the end of the 171.4km race ahead of Viktor Vershaeve of Germany and Tobias Foss of Uno-X Norwegian Development Team. Vermaerke bridged to a breakaway of three riders that escaped after the peloton brought a move containing teammate Ian Garrison back into the fold. The...

Jeremy Powers retires from racing

Four-time US cyclo-cross champion Jeremy Powers has retired from racing, according to an update on his official Facebook page. The 35-year-old from Massachusetts said he will take a role as a presenter on the Global Cycling Network in June.  When I started out, I never envisioned my ability as a cyclist would carry me as far as it did, Powers wrote in his Facebook post. I fell in love with the bike as a 12-year-old, wild, energetic kid from Connecticut. I rode my bike absolutely everywhere. It ...

Peter Sagan to race Fleche Wallonne

Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) will line up to start La Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday. The three-time world champion was not initially scheduled to race the mid-week segment of the Ardennes Classics, instead opting to focus on Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, but he was a late addition to the start list on the eve of the race.  Sagan has not won a Classic so far this season, and his sole victory came during a stage of the Tour Down Under in January. He started the European season with an...

Sivakov and Geoghegan Hart play down any Team Sky rivalry

Pavel Sivakov gave Team Sky a second consecutive stage victory at the Tour of the Alps and took the leaders jersey from teammate Tao Geoghegan Hart by going on the attack, but both young riders played down any internal rivalry, knowing that collective success comes before personal glory in professional cycling. Geoghegan Hart won his first professional race on Monday, and Sivakov did the same on the queen stage of the Tour of the Alps on Tuesday, kicking away from Jan Hirt (Astana) on the steep...

Marianne Vos returns to Fleche Wallonne

Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) will line up at Flèche Wallonne in an attempt to win a record sixth title on the Mur de Huy on Wednesday. Her initial targets were the Ardennes Classics Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, but she has been added to CCC-Livs roster for Flèche Wallonne to race alongside teammate and contender Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. We saw how strong Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Marianne Vos are in the Amstel Gold Race, said sports director Jeroen Blijlevens. In the Waalse Pijl [Flèche...
