Nizzolo believes knee injury woes are behind him with Tour of Oman win

Giacomo Nizzolo hopes his injury woes are behind him after undergoing knee surgery in December, and victory on the final stage of the Tour of Oman on Thursday confirmed his belief that he can get back to his best. The Italian claimed seven victories times in 2016, including the Italian road race title, and went close to victory on several occasions at the Giro dItalia. However, this was only his second victory since then. Nizzolo only raced for 28 days in 2017 as he battled tendinitis in his k...

Bike thieves strike Vital Concept-B&B Hotels at Ruta del Sol

Vital Concept-B&B Hotels were the victim of bike thieves overnight at the Ruta del Sol. Twelve of their road bikes were stolen, but the team was able to get replacements from their supplier, and other teams, and was at the start of stage 2 on Thursday. The bikes were stolen overnight, with just two not being taken. The teams time trial bikes, which will be needed on Friday, were not taken, apparently being stored at a different location. Lotto Soudal is staying at the same hotel, but were not ...

Greipel complains to Tour of Oman jury about final sprint

Andre Greipel (Arkea-Samsic) ended the Tour of Oman on the same note he started it: frustration. After a late puncture ruined his plans on the opening stage, he was prevented from sprinting on the Mattrah Corniche on the final day by what he felt was a dangerous sprint by the winner Giacomo Nizzolo (Dimension Data). There was some confusion, however, as Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) was caught up in the same incident and blamed Niccolo Bonifazio (Direct Energie). Greipel finished 28th on the stage b...

Kristoff crashes out of Tour of Oman finale with deep arm wound

Alexander Kristoff was targeting a second successive win on the Mattrah Corniche on the final stage of the Tour of Oman, and hoping to book-end his 2019 race on a winning note. However the UAE Team Emirates sprinter was unable to finish the race after a heavy crash left him with deep lacerations on his arm and knee. The crash occurred with just over 50km of the largely flat stage remaining, and affected a chunk of the peloton, including second-placed Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain-Merida), who was...

The 75th edition of the Vuelta a Espana will start in the Netherlands with a team time trial in Utrecht with organisers revealing the details of two other stages in the Utrecht and North Brabant provinces before the peloton flies to Spain on an early rest day. Utrecht thus becomes the first city to host stages of all three Grand Tours, having hosted the start of the Tour de France in 2015 and the finish of a stage of the Giro dItalia in 2010. It is the second time that the Vuelta has started ...
