Jakobsen lifts Quick-Step Floors' 2018 victory count to record of 72

Fabio Jakobsen made repeated trips to the podium in Nanning’s Minzu Square on Thursday after sprinting to victory on stage 3 of the Tour of Guangxi, but he never seemed to tire of the ceremony. Each time the Dutchman was called to the dais to receive bouquets and the congratulations of local politicians – as stage winner, new race leader and best young rider – his smile was as wide and his reaction as exuberant as the last. His team, it seems, has not yet tired of winning. Jakobsen’s victory w...

Spanish media have reported that Burgos-BH rider Ibai Salas has received a three-year, nine-month sentence for a possible biological passport offence. The 27-year-old Basque rider, a pro with Burgos-BH since 2014, can make a final appeal to a Spanish state sports tribunal, Spanish sports daily AS reports, but it has not yet emerged if he will do so. The case was first leaked to the media in June, but neither it nor the sentence have been made public. If confirmed, Salas case would be the firs...

Sivakov: I'm not at the same phase as Bernal

Making the transition from the world-conquering outlook of a top amateur to the more restricted horizons of a neo-professional is never straightforward, and Pavel Sivakov’s task was complicated still further when his debut with Team Sky was delayed by injury at the beginning of this season. The Russian – born in Italy and raised in France – stepped up to WorldTour level this year with high expectations after landing the Ronde de l’Isard, Giro della Valle d’Aosta and under-23 Giro d’Italia in hi...

Bradley Wiggins has said he see sees the human side to Lance Armstrong, arguing that the American has been singled out for his transgressions. Speaking on British radio station TalkSport, the 2012 Tour de France champion insisted Armstrong is an iconic figure in cycling - if not an icon - who will always be his inspiration for taking up the sport.  Armstrong won the Tour de France seven times between 1999 and 2005 but was stripped of his titles when he admitted to doping at the start of 2013, a...
