Elissonde impresses Froome in the mountains at Tour of the Alps

Chris Froome thanked his Sky teammate Kenny Elissonde for helping close down Fabio Arus dangerous attack on stage 4 of the Tour of the Alps, after initially missing the move on the steep, early slopes of the Bannberg climb. The Frenchman has proved invaluable to Froome on the key climbs of the Tour of the Alps. Diego Rosa is apparently suffering from pollen allergies, and so Elissonde has stepped up and performed extra shifts of hard work, riding tempo for Froome, chasing attacks and even cover...

Van der Breggen: I hoped that the break would stick at Fleche Wallonne

Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans) claimed her fourth straight Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, but says she found this years race harder than the previous editions. And ever the team player, the Dutchwoman was rooting for the four-woman breakaway with her teammate Megan Guarnier to go all the way. The final was harder this year because we had to do the second-last climb twice. And that one is just as tough as the Mur, I think. The tactics started earlier this year. I tried the first attack, and...

Haller struck by car while training

Katusha-Alpecins Marco Haller was struck by a motorist who ran a stop sign while training in Austria on Thursday, suffering multiple fractures to his left knee. The team estimate he will be out for several months and will miss the Tour de France, where he was due to be one of Marcel Kittels main lead-out men. It was my second day back on the bike, after I had to recover from a second viral infection in the 2018 season, Haller said from the Landeskrankenhaus hospital in Villach. I was riding wi...

The 18-year-old said he heard a bang and felt pain in his shoulder but was so shocked he didnt initially realise hed been shot. With blood flowing down his arm he made the short journey to hospital, where serious injury was fortunately ruled...

Aru: I'm not at the Tour of the Alps to be a bit-part player

Fabio Aru (UAE Team Emirates) admitted that he was not at the same level as his potential Giro dItalia rivals when the Tour of the Alps began on Monday but day after day, attack after attack, he has been able to close the gap, indicating he will be a real contender at the Corsa Rosa in May. Aru often races with his heart, ignoring his legs, as he searches for success. He appeared to use both during stage 4 to Lienz, perhaps first informing Chris Froome of his intentions to attack on the late Ba...
